What’s different about working for Kids adVentures?

By Nattalie, Nursery Practitioner, Kids adVentures Salford

Kids adVentures stood out when I was looking for a new role as it seemed that they are a big part of their community and that they give back. I liked the idea of giving back.

For example, I could see that they run a food club to help disadvantaged families. I loved that they have been working with care homes to run intergenerational sessions too.

Once I started working here, I learnt that they are a social enterprise, meaning we don’t work for profit but for a surplus that we can then put back into community projects. Things like mental health support, groups to tackle social isolation and learning courses that anyone can access for free.

I’ve been working here for over a year now and I absolutely love it. It’s great to feel part of the team and to know that we are helping local families.

Through Covid we did things like sent cards from the children to care home residents and we took part in a jigsaw scheme where the children decorated puzzle pieces to be matched up with some done by the care home residents and displayed at the care home. It was such a nice project at such a difficult time.

The team at my nursery in Salford are all very upbeat and there’s lots of opportunity to have input into what activities we do with the children. It’s also great to have the wider community centre (The Angel Centre) team around us – they often help out. Because our nursery is set within a community centre we have access to other services including a shop and free counselling.

We also have a company minibus which means we have the freedom to take the children out on trips. The Angel Centre team secured us a community plot at the new RHS Garden so we can now take the children there to grow vegetables.

There’s several company wide events throughout the year – we had a barbeque at our community garden in the summer. It’s great to be able to catch up on some of the community projects in an informal atmosphere. We also have regular rewards and treat days at our own setting.

We have just been given a discount scheme too so we can all get money off online clothing and beauty shopping – that’s a lovely bonus.

I feel really supported and settled here in the knowledge that the nursery team and the managers all have the same ethos of providing great services and opportunities for local families and communities.
