Kids adVentures take up Community Plot at RHS!

At Social adVentures and Kids adVentures, we are always looking at new ways to use the outdoors to improve health and wellbeing, particularly at our nurseries and Garden Needs Community Garden. We want the outdoors to be accessible to everyone and teach everything there is to know about nature, so we are thrilled that we will have our very own patch of land at the new RHS Garden Bridgewater development in Worsley.

RHS Garden Bridgewater will open its gates on Tuesday 18 May 2021 after the coronavirus pandemic delayed opening plans by almost a year. The 154-acre garden in Salford, Greater Manchester, is the biggest hands-on horticultural project undertaken in Europe since planning permission was granted in 2017. Around 7.8 million people living within an hour’s journey time of the garden will be able to access world-class horticultural inspiration and expertise at the first-ever RHS Garden to be located in an urban area.

We will be using our patch to show our children where their food comes from, allowing them to sew and grow their favourite fruits and vegetables and learn from the process that comes with that. We are so passionate about outdoor education, so having another place for the children to visit will really help aid this.

The seed to plate concept is a key principle that we want to inspire in our children’s knowledge and their interest in food. In the Spring we will allow the children to decide what food they wish to grow on the allotment patch, then we will sow all the seeds together and study the growth of them. Throughout the Summer we will continue to look after the fruit, vegetables and herbs until they are ready for harvest. Picking and eating foods such as peas, tomatoes, berries and beans straight from the plant always prove a huge hit in our Community Garden, so we can’t wait to have the space to do this on a grander scale!

We will be posting regular updates on our nursery social media pages of our allotment’s development, so be sure to ‘like’ our pages to stay up to date.
