Kids adVentures Manchester Nurseries – One Year On

It’s a year since we (Social adVentures) started our Manchester nurseries journey and took on our first childcare nursery. At the time we had a vision of providing child centred care in small groups and of improving facilities, opportunities and health and wellbeing.
We’ve kept to this and have bought one more nursery during this time period. Both of our Manchester nurseries are small and family orientated caring for a maximum of 35 children. We only take on a maximum of 6 babies per nursery as we are passionate about providing a personalised service.
Our nursery staff know every child that they care for and every parent, partner or carer. We have a weekend worksheet system for families to fill in together during weekends so that we can continue discussion and activity with the child based on what they’ve done and enjoyed.
We’ve refurbished our first nursery from top to bottom and kitted it out with a host of new facilities and equipment. We’ve doubled our weekly shopping budget as parents told us that nutrition was a top priority. We have in house chefs who cook everything from fresh utilising high quality ingredients. Our menus change from week to week as we encourage children to try new things and recipes are available for parents so that favourites can be cooked at home.
We’ve also added extra benefits to our Manchester nurseries to give more families access to great care including offering one month of free childcare when parents are returning to work.
Every one of our Manchester nurseries has its own individual team and character and this will not change, this is what makes them special. Our nurseries are small and we celebrate that – we wouldn’t want it any other way. We do not provide large scale nurseries because this does not fit with our ideal of how a childcare nursery should be run. While we may not be family run, we have a strong set of values and a family ethos which is underpinned by our employee owned status.
We’ve invested £40,000 into our nurseries over the last year to deliver the following improvements:

Full nursery refurbishment including new roofing, flooring, complete redecoration and new furniture.

Replaced the majority of the existing resources to bring them up to a good standard.

Purchased new play and educational equipment.

Put in place a full and ongoing training programme for all staff.

Employed a nutrition consultant to assess and advise on menus.

Increased nursery staff wages across the board.

Set up and run community fun days.

Provided introductory free childcare to help parents who are returning to work.

We have a limited amount of childcare places available now at our Prestwich nursery and at our Radcliffe nursery.
