At our Prestwich Nursery we have been focusing on holidays and travel over the last week and will be continuing this theme throughout this week. We are also starting some exciting learning programmes during September.
Looking at travel and holidays is a fun learning opportunity and gives us the chance to talk with our pre-school children about all of the exciting activities that they experienced over the summer holidays. It is very important for us to link home life with nursery life as we aim to be a continuation of that family environment. Talking about the holidays is a great way to do this.
The children have been bringing in and sharing their holiday snaps and we have added a geography aspect by looking at different countries in the world that we have visited. As part of this we have learnt about different cultures and the children have been telling us stories about their holiday experiences.
We’ve been having lots of fun with activities around this theme which have included building tents and camping; mini passport making, and; running our own role play travel agent.
We have new children settling into the nursery or starting a new age group within the nursery at this time of year and we build interactive activities around this to increase confidence and encourage friendships. Roleplay and open discussion are important aspects of this process as they encourage natural interaction.
This month our 3 year olds will be starting their letter and sounds programme at the Prestwich Nursery. This is a wide and varied programme and will include listening to environmental sounds, body percussion and using musical instruments. This is designed to give our children a head start in learning and can be continued at home. If you have any questions about this programme please ask when you are in the nursery. We will be happy to tell you more about it.
